The king of a princely state suddenly became seriously ill. Due to complete loss of hunger and thirst, his body started turning pale and decrepit.

The prince and other family members got him examined by top doctors. Ultimately he concluded that the secretion fluid coming out of the glands of their body and coming to the mouth, which is called saliva, had stopped being produced. Big doctors of allopathy system were called from Bombay-Calcutta, many foreign doctors were also called. Everyone gave their medicines, but Raja Saheb could not be cured of his disease. Now all the people of the state started thinking that the death of Raja Saheb is imminent.

One day suddenly an elderly Ayurvedacharya from a village in the state, Vaidyaji, came to the city. They were told that our king was suffering from a terrible disease. This disease has been declared incurable. Doctors from Calcutta-Bombay have been unable to treat him.

Vaidyaji reached the king’s Prime Minister and said, I am also a citizen of your kingdom. When I heard about the king’s illness, I considered it my duty to come to the palace. Can I see Raja Saheb? At first the Prime Minister showed disdain after seeing the village doctor in plain clothes, dressed in dhoti and kurta, with a tilak on his forehead, but in the end he thought what was the harm in showing him to the king. He was taken to the king’s room.

Vaidyaji checked the king’s pulse. Took stock of his eyes and tongue. Suddenly a smile appeared on Vaidyaji’s face. Said to the Prince and the Prime Minister, I have understood the disease. Now tell me whether I should make him healthy by giving him medicine or by showing him medicine.

After remaining silent for some time, Vaidyaji said – You ask for 10 youths, 10 knives and 10 lemons. Now I free them from diseases and make them completely healthy. Hearing this, everyone was surprised as to how this unique medicine of Vaidyaji would be able to cure Raja Saheb. Everyone said that Vaidya seems to be a crazy person. After discussion, arrangements were made for youths, knives and lemons.

Vaidya ji made the ten youths stand in a line. A lemon and a knife were handed over to each one. Told them that as soon as I give the signal, a young man should reach near Raja Saheb’s bed, take a lemon near his mouth, cut the lemon with a knife and squeeze both its halves in the vessel kept there. After this the other youth should also do the same.

The Queen, the Prince, the Prime Minister etc. were sitting in Raja Saheb’s room watching the experiment of this unique treatment. On Vaidyaji’s signal, a young man came into the room – he saluted Raja Saheb, took the lemon near his mouth, cut it with a knife and squeezed both its halves.

After this experiment of three youths, Raja Saheb moved his tongue. As soon as the fourth youth cut the lemon and squeezed the juice, Raja Saheb’s eyes started shining. Raja Saheb’s mouth started watering after seeing the stream of lemon juice and thinking about the lemon. His glands had started producing saliva.

Within no time Raja Saheb’s mouth started filling with saliva. Vaidyaji made him drink lemon juice mixed with basil leaves and black pepper. After some time Raja Saheb sat up. The saliva producing glands of his body started functioning.

Now Raja Saheb’s entire family had bowed down to that village doctor. The big doctors of the English system were not able to cure Raja Saheb, whereas an ordinary physician had cured Raja Saheb with one of his native remedies.

The people of the royal family wanted to reward Vaidyaji with gold coins, but he said, I am a citizen of this kingdom – isn’t it my duty to do something for the health of my king and he refused to accept the reward.
