Had a great visit. Plenty of traditional and fusion inspired items on the menu.

Had quite a few appetizers and three rolls shared amongst our table of three was PLENTY.

The *spicy edamame stood out. We had a non-spicy friend so we got the spicy sauce on the side. I must confess, I generously added it to several other dishes we enjoyed, including the gyoza dumplings and the lobster dumplings. Highly recommend.

We ordered two fusion rolls and a traditional rainbow roll. Everything was good but be prepared to let some new flavors gel in your mouth. The smoked salmon on sushi creates its own flair as does goat cheese instead of cream cheese. Really enjoyed the freshness of the jalapeño in the rolls!!

Would have gone with a five but for a busy Friday night, I thought it odd that the hostess’ were not checking in with each other on which parties at the door had been helped and making sure tables without reservations were sat according to who arrived first. A quick look around to see, “Who comes next?” would fix that problem. Was baffled that a hostess asked two behind us, who had no reservations as I was close enough to hear the exchange, and they were sat immediately, when we had arrived plenty before them. I
didn’t want to raise the issue, but we waited another 45 to be sat, only to see the two at a table across from us when we were finally seated at a four top. As someone who worked as a server, it simply didn’t seem logical.

So, we decided to check out lucky af. Its excellent location is surrounded by breweries and arcades, providing plenty of nearby activities. The pot stickers were good. Had a nice crispness and good flavor. The sauce was tangy and sweet, delicious. The sushi was great, hands down the best Philly roll we have ever had. The smokiness was amazing! The sauce on the plate is great, but beware it is spicy! The seasame chicken was AMAZING, crispy, sweet all white meat, five stars hands down. The salad was good. But the miso soup has this rich, deep, soulful flavor, so much depth that it was great! We will be back for more. The only downside is that it is noisy, so I’m not sure I would recommend it for a first date, but we had a great time!

Service was slow. Sushi was good but nothing extraordinary. What I do absolutely recommend is the Truffle manage a troi… That sushi rice was delectable… Great texture and well… You can’t go wrong with truffle 😋

Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options are available

Parking: Parking lot not available until 5 pm

Finding parking can be a bit challenging, but there are free street parking options available.

Had a fabulous time here celebrating a dear friend’s engagement. Good drinks and creative sushi choices. Highly recommend the space for celebrations! Taking off a star because vegetarian & vegan options are not clearly marked on the menu (but they do have some which is great).

I opted for the seared Tuna, which also happens to be one of the pricier items on the menu and comes with fried rice. The restaurant caught my eye initially because of its logo design, and being Asian, I appreciate such cultural nuances. Familiar with the traditional oily nature of fried rice for that coveted ‘Wok Hay,’ I was taken aback by the excessive oiliness at this fusion place. It felt like a Chinese-Italian collaboration, but I prefer my olive oil with bread, not rice. I inquired with the waitress, who assured me that the oiliness was standard. After perusing Google images, I consider myself quite fortunate (no pun intended) to have chosen what seems to be the least appetizing dish on the menu. The only Asian element I discern in my dish is the ‘Yellow River’ flowing through the rice.If you like oil, this is the place! Good luck 🙂

Consistency is everything. Each time I’ve visited this restaurant everything is so good. Received friendly service. Easy take out process. A little wait but food came out fresh. Worth the wait. Ordered the Lucky AF roll and cucumber salad. Finished it all. So good!

Absolutely hooked! I’m frustrated it took me so long to discover this place. Having relocated from California and lived in Japan, we set a high bar for sushi quality. Unfortunately, the first four sushi spots we tried in Virginia didn’t meet our expectations. They lacked freshness, offered limited options, or relied on gimmicks to attract customers. I’m not interested in “all you can eat.” I crave delicious quality.

For our anniversary, my husband took us to this gem, and I can’t express how eager I am to return. Despite its unassuming exterior, the presence of a large lucky cat on the facade caught our attention. Once inside, we were greeted by a lovely and romantic interior. The staff was prompt and attentive, with our server making fantastic recommendations.

The Wonder Woman roll is a must-try, and the Joker roll was absolutely amazing too! These were our favorites, but even the Get Naked roll, gyoza, egg rolls, and lobster appetizer were incredibly delicious.

Give it a shot! The experience will linger in your mind, and you’ll find yourself yearning to go back. No regrets here! I even bought the T-shirt because their logo is simply awesome. 😄

Dinner

During our business trip, my husband and I were eager to try a sushi restaurant that had received great reviews. However, upon arriving, we were disappointed to find that the menu had been changed from what we had seen online to a very limited, entirely spicy selection. Unfortunately, due to dietary restrictions, we couldn’t partake. Additionally, the building lacked ADA accessibility, and the music was excessively loud, forcing us to leave.

Perhaps on another occasion with the full menu and without accessibility concerns, this place could be ideal for some, but it didn’t meet our needs.

Update: Regarding accessibility, it’s unusual not to have it at the front of the building. Maybe a sign would help? I can’t say we’ll be returning…

Wheelchair accessibility: NOT ACCESSIBLE!
It does not adhere to ADA guidelines. Even though I’m not in a wheelchair and can walk (hemiplegic), it wasn’t accessible to me either. There was only one railing on the stairs, requiring us to go down sideways as we left. I can’t fathom being in a wheelchair and attempting to visit this place. It’s undoubtedly not suitable. No other known entrance.

Response from the ownera week ago

Caitlin,

We sincerely apologize for any confusion and want to clarify that we do have a wheelchair-accessible entrance. It is conveniently situated through the patio entrance at the back of the restaurant, allowing guests to pull up directly to access the establishment easily. We regret that you were not informed about this during your visit. We would be delighted to welcome you back, and our team will gladly assist you and your companions in entering the restaurant. Once again, we apologize for not providing this information during your previous visit.

Regarding the limited menu, it seems you might be referring to our happy hour menu. This menu is indeed restricted, but it is only available for a brief period (approximately 2 hours) between our lunch and dinner services while the kitchen transitions and prepares for dinner. Rest assured, there are numerous non-spicy options available during this time. When you choose to return, we will be more than happy to guide you through your dining experience, whether it’s during happy hour, lunch, or dinner. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Sincerely,
The Lucky Fam

They genuinely underestimate what they offer here. It’s the finest sushi I’ve experienced in the continental U.S. While the roll names seemed a bit gimmicky, the moment I tasted them, I was completely convinced. I wholeheartedly recommend it. The fish is incredibly fresh and tender, and every component blends together perfectly. Words can’t express how delicious it is – you simply have to try it for yourself. Trust me.

This has got to be one of the top sushi restaurants I’ve ever dined at. It’s situated right in the heart of Scott’s Addition, making it a delight to explore. The vibrant paintings all around, especially the Lucky Cat Murals showcasing Richmond themes, add to the overall enjoyment. Inside, you’ll find a stylish setting with tables, a sushi bar, a spacious bar seating area, and an outdoor patio. Opting for the sushi bar, we were impressed with the meticulous preparation and presentation of everything we ordered, resembling dishes from Top Chef. The menu offers a variety of unique items, ensuring there’s always something new to try on each visit. The staff was friendly and personable, contributing to our enjoyable first experience. Needless to say, we look forward to returning!

Do you recall when Tina Turner sang, “You must understand how the touch of your hand makes my pulse react”? Well, it dawned on me that she must have been referring to the divine touch of the Food God who graces you with his presence when you indulge in this food.

I’ve visited this place twice, and let me tell you, I’ve been thoroughly satisfied each time. The drinks, especially the mule, are delightful, and the sushi is consistently fresh. The servers are exceptionally kind and friendly. To illustrate their attention to detail, when my friend accidentally dropped her chopsticks, a server promptly appeared with a new pair. This level of attentiveness extends to the preparation of their meals as well.

The venue is on the smaller side, and there might be a wait at times. The longest I’ve waited is around 25 minutes, but it was definitely worth it.

I wholeheartedly recommend this place, and I’m sure to make a return visit.

I have a fondness for this place, but regrettably, our experience was marred by the male host. We’re usually patient and understanding of wait times. On a rainy day with limited space indoors for everyone waiting, we received a text indicating our table was ready. Unfortunately, by the time we managed to get back inside, our spot had been given away. It took us 12 minutes to navigate through the line at the host stand, just slightly beyond the 10-minute window mentioned by the male host. He informed us that they typically release the spot after 10 minutes, so it seemed we were looking at an hour and a half wait. While they did offer a spot on the back patio, the cold weather and a past experience of being uncomfortably cold on the patio with a lingering dumpster smell led us to choose another place.
