George Santos Mocks GOP Mercilessly Following Democrats’ Victory in His Former Seat
Former congressman George Santos criticized the Republican Party strongly on Tuesday night following a special election in which a Democrat replaced him in his former House seat. The New York 3rd district, once held by Santos, shifted from Republican to Democratic as Tom Suozzi secured the seat left vacant by Santos’ expulsion due to fraud charges.
Santos didn’t hold back in expressing his disappointment publicly and privately, blaming his former colleagues for the loss and further narrowing the GOP’s House majority. In a text message to the New York GOP, Santos expressed his dissatisfaction with their efforts and the hefty amount spent on what he deemed a futile campaign against him. He accused them of running a hate-filled campaign and wished them luck in raising funds in the future.
Santos was expelled from the House in December following allegations of misusing campaign funds and facing multiple criminal charges. Despite his expulsion being supported by many GOP lawmakers, Santos seized the opportunity to criticize them for the cost incurred by his expulsion.
He urged his former GOP colleagues to demand reimbursement for the $10 million spent, referring to them as ineffective and likening them to Democratic operatives. He also called for the resignation of Nassau County Republican Committee Chairman Joseph G. Cairo Jr., accusing him of supporting his opponent with establishment money.
Santos boasted about winning his seat without establishment support and criticized the GOP’s spending, emphasizing the importance of grassroots activism. He blamed the loss on the disrespect shown to the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement, asserting that their base didn’t turn out because of this disrespect.
